Just seeing if anyone else here is keen on learning languages as I am. I'm currently learning Swedish, Kazakh, Serbian, Portuguese and Japanese. English is my second language after French, so apologies if I make mistakes.

All together I speak some 14 languages, and understand another 10. :D

Anyone else?

That's a very useful skill.  What kind of work do you do?
My dad also has a knack for language.  Sadly I did not inherit his ability.  He fluently speaks Latin, Madarin, Cantonese, Japanese, French, English and can converse in Norwegian and Italian.

It is also an annoying and kind of scary skill to have. I went on holiday once to Italy and within 4 days I didn't have to speak a word of English to any Italian person.

I generally don't have much of a chance to converse with native speakers of any of my languages around here though. I do help out with written translations of documents and also of websites though, as well as writing songs in French and Serbian.

Uh..You should work for the government, or some multi-national corporation.  May as well get rich using that skill.

I am studying sign language right now. I have been for 10 years and I have an awesome linguistics class. I love learning other languages. I also know Arabic, English and some Spanish. But I am only fluent in English and Sign Language

I wish I could speak other languages - I speak a little French and a little German but just don't seem to have the knack. Its a shame because there are so many languages spoken at my office - I work on an English language only program but my manager is Sicillian - so we are teaching him Geordie.... :D

Don't rely on Google translate or Babel Fish. They're really not that good.

When I was in high school, I took Latin for the first three years. My senior year I wanted to do something different so I took Spanish.

When I was in college, I continued my Spanish studies, added a few linguistics classes and then went on to Russian.

I never really learned any language well enough to speak it. I was always more interested in the underlying structure and mechanics than communicating with language. I really envy those who can learn languages well enough to speak them.  :headbang:

I understand dog, cat, chicken, and mumble (I grew up/live with deaf people).... does that count?  Cause honestly, languages are really really difficult for me.  I can have a full on conversation with my dane and bassets without uttering a sound but still don't get spanish even though I took 2 years of it and live where nearly everyone can and does speak it.  :sigh:
